This is an improv on the melody of Summertime - that I dedicate to the great Jazz Guitar Master - John Dougherty, my friend and past teacher who is currently living in Las Vegas.

Hope you all like it, please forgive the sound of new strings, they are not flat wound unfortunately because of the old Silvertone being an acoustic without a pickup! Not the best guitar for a warm tone, more of a rhythm guitar - Freddie Green Style. I used some chorus on the external video camera mic to help reduce the harsh recording sound produced by the Raw Acoustic Silvertone Archtop. A jazz guitar and amp are needed, I'm working on it!!! I find every guitar I play produces a different playing style, this guitar brought out my fight the strings mode, old Silvertone's are a challenge to play, especially single note soloing...playing without any kind of backing is good practice on occasion, and can help your own style and ear develop!

All the best,

Alan Traynor

  • I'm not trying to sound like an asshole because believe me your prob. better then I am but don;t try to force it...

    your playing sounds alittle forced...

Good but forced...let your fingers flow alittle more then this would have been outstanding.

  • Thanks for the comment Vasdeus. This is the reason I got rid of this guitar, it is a 1950's Silvertone, mostly used for rhythm guitar. I have a new jazz guitar with a smooth sound, but no camera to record with! Ain't life grand!Ha

  • If you can't say something positive about this great tune, chances are you are neglecting your own practice routine and are feeling insecure. Life is hard when you dislike yourself as intensely as some of you do.

  • really great guitar playing

    congratulations

  • @thejazzman8 hahaha amen brother, ima sax man

    :)

  • very nice guitar. would love an old silvertone archtop like that.

  • Dont worry tho... just work at it... if everyone approached it the same we wouldnt have the musicians that these critics listen to.

  • Yeah it is pretty boring.

  • its boiring. Very scholastic

  • enjoy your I IV V jerkoff...jazz is for talented musicians...

  • it's his timing

  • there is nothing wrong with your guitar..the tone, the sound character of the guitar is outstanding..is just how you play it...your technique is obvious you are really good! but i have to agree with vasdeus is a bit forced... it doesnt flow... if you can add more flow or groove in to it...it will be perfect...
