@plashford62 While I agree with you, I'm curious to know, ARE YOU A MUSICIAN? More specific, ARE YOU AN ORGANIST? Because EVEN with the fruits of the spirit you just mentioned, many of these churches are LITTERALLY insulting us with ridiculous low-ball salaries. And then they have the AUDACITY to tell us we can't do secular gigs. When MANY OF US HAVE THE SKILLS TO MAKE $MILLIONS$ of dollars. Plus, all that goes into being an Organist, will SERIOUSLY try your soul. COUNT ON IT.

@walt9427 If you get caught using transpose in Cleveland you want get called for vary many gigs. Some places don't mind but you get caught using transpose in the wrong place and you'll loose a lot of respect. Musicians lead the worship and set the atmosphere.

Does the Electrician have to meet the same spiritual requirements?

@0ptimyze you lost me, who is nuts? the musicians?

paying a church musician is like paying a psychiatric patient. They're there because they're nuts. Why pay them?....

Amen. I respect any musician who wants to give of their time and volunteer, but I don't believe they should be expected to. I'm tired of hearing the term "work as unto the Lord" misused as a reason not to compensate musicians for their often long hours spent honing their skill and practicing both at church and home. In EVERYTHING we do we are to "work as unto the Lord", whether at a job, church, home or otherwise. There's a time for volunteering and there's a time for us to take care of our own.

@216streetz I have to disagree with you in one thing. I don't believe that most musicians that play for free are not good it can be the other way around to. However, it doesn't matter if a keyboard player can't play in all keys. If they have perfected one key to the max and have the anointing of God it makes the difference. Transpose is there for a reason. I agree ministry is not a hobby and one should be CALLED and CHOSEN by God and not by man. I mean no disrespect to you. Be blessed.

man, Christians nowadays twist the scriptures. we shouldnt be tithing. the tithes went to the temple in Jerusalem. The temple was destroyed and tithing is not required. if you wanna pay somebody for what they do is a totally different topic.
You should pay any professional, they're called professionals for a reason. You're not going to expect a electrician to fix a church's lights for free. So what's wrong a musician getting paid?

Church musicians should be paid if they can meet the requirements of the church’s musical needs. To pay a church musician they must be qualified not by secular means but qualified by spiritual means. They must be equipped with the fruits of the spirit (Gal 5). They must have a spirit of worship and want to learn of God, be of God, seek after God as well as offer their talents. Without these qualifications the musician is of no use to the church..
