Digicam footage I took from the top while measuring the Lake Vyrnwy Douglas Fir on May 10th 2009. To my surprise it turned out to be 63.79m (209.3ft), exactly the same height as the tallest tree in Scotland, the Stronardron Douglas Fir!

  • ...By all accounts it had developed a scary looking lean so there was no choice. It was a remarkable tree - over 10ft taller than any other in England or Wales. I have a section of the trunk in my living room but I'm very sad that it's no longer standing.

Are you a UK resident? Are you an arborist or a recreational climber?

  • Hi there. Sadly you won't be able to because the tree had to be cut down in March. I was supposed to be climbing it again with BBC Countryfile filming and I got a call saying that they were felling it the day before I was due to arrive due to storm damage. When I got there a 30ft stump was left and I could see huge vertical splits in the base.
