Danny Gatton is one of my personal favorite guitarists and an undisputed virtuoso. This performance is beautiful, chilling, and inspirational.

  • I love this song , Danny boyz a bad ass . I think this song was originally a Harry James number but I could be wrong , if it aint his he has the oldest version I've ever heard . The Revrend Horton Heat does a killer version of this too if you can find it .

  • @MrPj74 was this video you were referring too?

  • How I wish I could have seen Danny play live. he not only sounds incredible but looks so utterly one with his instrument. And yes - I have just chopped up my Tele for firewood.

  • When I was a kid I used to by guitar player magazine and they always talked of him. He died before I got into his music.

  • I was reading an old downbeat and saw this man's name. Thank God I found this dude. Incredible. He is one of the rare players who stand alone, unfortunately only a few knew of him

  • Mastery of electric guitar without losing the soul - a man amongst boys compared to the greats of guitar.

  • @elvislives81677 Lenny Breau pretty much matched Danny in sheer ability.

  • Don't you think that the reason could have been an old, old idea that you could only chord on Guitar. Unless you followed jazz as I have you will get a blank look when you mention Charlie Christian, and he was the one who made amplified guitar a part of big bands. It was first thought of and used by a musician out of San Marcos, Texas

  • Two guitarists who were absolute geniuses, and both left us much much too early. Danny Gatton and Lenny Breau, Danny decided it was time to get off, and some one else made that decision for Lenny

  • @crashing78 Suicide is the only cry that indicates pain too intense to describe. It is a great tragedy when one doesn't realize that "this too shall pass" and decides that it is his only option

  • @2grouchy1 Of course you are right. I really don't remember the first Mike Hammer show that well; I was too young. It was in black and white. The Keach version was in the 1960's or 70's, right? "Peter Gunn" had some great music by Mancini...wonder why Danny never played any...

  • The best version for me was the one by Earl Bostic, I think it is an awfully good number and I like it by everyone that I've heard do it. I think it was the Bostic version done on the "Oringinal Mike Hammer"

  • @1948BigCy No I think you have your stars mixed up, Stacy Keach was the Mike Hammer lead, hair-lip and all
