It was bound to happen, almost inevitable, but HD-DVD has been hacked. No sign of DVD-Jon this time though :)

HD-DVD uses an encryption system called AACS which stands for Advanced Access Content System, basically it is a system that restricts the devices that can play the discs.

But a Canadian hacker going by the name of Muslix64 has cracked it. A video of the software being used to extract Warner Brothers war epic Full Metal Jacked was posted on youtube but Warner Brothers has had it removed already, somebodys obviously very scared! What did they expect though? Nothing is uncrackable, they have probably a thousand people working on protecting a device, compare this to the hundreds of thousands of people who are attempting the crack it!

This version of the video has the copyright infringing section pixelated out and the audio muted, so the powers that be shouldnt remove this one!

For more information on this any many more hacks then head on over to www.hack247.co.uk

  • Too bad HD-DVD is worthless now...

  • @Justamit2501 we are the hollywoods bank of lustful greed.

  • Technically, the AACS encryption algorithms have still not been broken. What happened is that the player key databases have been discovered, enabling software to decrypt title keys on the discs, allowing for the decryption of the AACS encrypted screams.

If you have the key, you don't need to break the lock. In the case of AACS, someone left the master key under the doormat, and someone made a copy :)

  • @hihaatje You're an idiot. That's binary. Only human languages have "words" and "sentances." Go learn about computer languages before you go and baselessly call something shitty.

  • Blu-ray hacked as well. Discs too expensive to burn at the moment. Sony owns rights to blu-ray disc distribution prices

  • Anything that can be built can be destroyed, recreated and made better

One of the many hacker philosophys

  • HD-DVD is dead anyway..

I guess it's for the concept..

    Blu-Ray FTW!

  • is there any place where i can DL the unedited version of this video without the pixelation and without the black square covering up the keys?

  • Your point doesnt make sense, if they had encrypted something with the private key then the public key will decrypt it, that key would have to be in the hardware so you just have to get it out and you can decrypt. So it wouldnt need to be leaked, you just have to tear open a BluRay drive, its the same as DVD basically. Also modern crypto only applies to things where you are never supposed to be able to read the data, if you can play it on your tv then they have given you the code.
