At a health care briefing in the House Rayburn Office Building, on May 20, 2009, Dr. Carol A. Paris of Leonardtown, MD, shared her feelings about her role as a member of "The Baucus Eight," and its importance to the cause of Single Payer. She added: "Single Payer is...Medicare Expanded!" Dr. Paris was arrested on May 5, 2009, for challenging the current rigged health care system at a hearing in the Senate Dirksen Office Building. On that date, Single Payer advocates were barred from having their voices heard by the very undemocratic Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, one Max Baucus (D-MT). Only the" Fat Cats" from the HMOs, Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industries were welcomed at Sen. Baucus table. Dr. Paris was introduced at the briefing, in room 2237of the Rayburn Building, by Dr. Margaret Flowers of Baltimore, MD, also a member of "The Baucus Eight." The briefing was sponsored by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), who is the chair of the House Judiciary Committee and the lead sponsor of HR 676. One of his top aides, Joel Segal, an expert on Single Payer, served as the moderator for the event. • It is NOT the gov't telling all hc providers what to do, what to use, etc. Now, yes, these systems aren't perfect, but they're really no worse in the long term than what we've got now.

Single payer, for the most part, is about cost and helping Americans afford HC. It has to do with PAYMENT. It's not about restricting patients' access to doctors, drugs, etc.

  • EXACTLY! Single-payer would just EXTEND Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP to ALL Americans! That's all it is! It's literally "Medicare-for-all." Seniors like Medicare, right? Folks on Medicaid, and parents with SCHIP are fairly satisfied, I'm sure. So why WOULDN'T a single-payer system in general be a good idea?? It's not necessarily a total gov't takeover of the entire system. In most cases, single payer is simply taking power AWAY from for-profit insurance co's.

  • MediScare is an abyssmal pyramid scheme. Stop Obamacare, then end MediScare.

  • Whenever you have a middle man with a huge amount of money, the service that you desire is going to be affected by the supply of money available.

However, if the consumer has a direct link to the doctor or hospital, the cost is driven down. Try it some time. Ask how much something is going to cost. Shop around. I know of a person who was told an MRI would cost $2000. The person said that she knew another facility had charged her $575 in the past and strangely, the new place matched it.

  • Government:

    - can run for years in the red

    - can print its own money

    - has armed forces to back them up

    Private Companies:

    - must produce profit to stay in business (well, until recently)

    - printing their own money would land them in jail

    - lucky to be able to personally own a firearm.

Yeah, some competition. Who do you think would win? And who will surely lose (uh, that would be us and the private companies).

  • Single payer seems like a good idea to me.

The insurance companies are parasitic. Why do we need them?

  • Liberals/statists are so generous with other peoples money but when it comes to their own, they are as tight fisted as anyone around.

  • Medicair is a dismal failure. Her "feasible" claim is garbage. Medicair is one of the entitlements that is driving us further into debt.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.
