Comparing these Drummers Colaiuta, Gadd, Weckl and Rich is like comparing:
Steak, Chicken, Fish and Lamb.
They are all Meat.and all tasty in their own way uniquely.
If anyone on these postings is a better drummer than any of these Drummers PAYING TRIBUTE TO BUDDY RICH..are any of you????

lazy swing feel: much the same can be said for any other than the great one. his fire defined him.
can't fault a drummer for not having the fire compared to buddy none of us do.
i hear it sometimes in donny osbornes playing. who else heard the music like buddy?
not even Louie had that fire

Listening to VC and comparing his swing to Buddy's is quite dramatic.
Colaiuta's swing is lazy and uninspired, while Buddy's pulse and groove was incendiary.

I've watched so many of these guys playing with the Buddy Rich band, and while guys like Gregg Bissonnette just SLAM and play the song amazingly well -- there's something about Vinnie and even Vinnie's idol Steve Gadd -- their control over dynamics, everything from ghost notes to cymbal crashes -- that set them apart. They prove their mastery with the little things as much as the big ones.
