World Premiere: Rotterdam International Film Festival 2005
Original Title: Ang Pamilyang Kumakain Ng Lupa
"The Family That Eats Soil" seeks to paint a dystopian portrait, a phantasmagoric reversal of Filipino values. It is an allegory for a people still walking and breathing under an unending nightmare.
A crisp, 75-minute hyper-condensed punk-trash take on Philippine family politics. At times it plays like a de-Pasolinized version of Takashi Miike's Visitor Q, at others like an absurdist experimental bomba flick. Yet it always feels as if cinema is about to end and only no-holds-barred videomaking can save the world. (Film Comment)
Displays clear traces of furious improvisations and a nonchalant provocative manner. (Rotterdam International Film Festival)
A very violent & provocative film. Downright bizarre. Involves cockfighting, prostitution, midgets, skull-crushing and plots to kill babies. (Montreal Festival Of New Cinema)
Or, simian, he IS making a grainy, incoherent b-movie. Either way.

you've piqued my interest. its as if you're especially inspired by those grainy incoherent late night b-movies which project extremes but somehow invoke something totally raw and oddly familiar. sana nama'y mag-release ka nang independent film thru the inet soon. tutulong ako. haha. keep up the good work!
