@KaibatsuD If you search it, it turns out that actually, Douglas Adams wanted to make a sequel, but passed on before he was able to. His wife sold the rights to Eoin, which I think was a good author to choose for this type of novel.

I wish him luck on the novel, I hope it turns out great, but, personally, I am OUTRAGED that anyone even decided that the series needed to be added to. I feel like, even though the intentions are good, that we are pissing on Douglas Adams' grave. He was an almost god-like word-smith and I just don't think anyone truly understand the hitch-hiker's universe like Adams did.

The series concluded so neatly that not even Douglas himself could extricate the characters, and he did dwell on the idea for a decade.

Everyone's dead at the end of 'Mostly Harmless'. Which characters might Eoin be planning to use? I suppose that Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged could be due...

But seriously, I don't have hate for the man. He's a career writer and this is a gem of a job. I hope it's good.

I'm a very big fan of the series and love artemis fowl as well . . . I'd rather him write it than some idiot that I dont trust to at least try to do it justice. :P just me

why?? why is this happening? does this mean that I can write a Harry Potter sequel and publish it as an official part of the series? with all due respect to Eoin, why is this necessary?

If this book were "just a highly-publicised bit of fanfiction", and indeed marketed as such, I would have very few problems with it. As it happens, it is being called Book Six of the series. THIS is what the fans unhappy about Mr. Colfer writing it (including me) are up in arms about.
