I was tempted to do the same thing until I discovered the Tridentine Mass.

@MelkiteVideo I am Roman Catholic from Pakistan. I am Eastern but we cannot Use Icons in Muslims Countries....

Sorry for the typo in my previous comment, I meant "rapproches people".

Archbishop Bustros made recently a comment at the Vatican stating the the Jews are not the Chosen People. With all due respect to the Archbishop this statement was totally inappropriate. We can discuss and analyze our beliefs, but it is only for God to decide who is right or wrong. I believe in constructive criticism which reproaches people from all faiths, the archbishop statement was not in that category.

@MelkiteVideo thank you

i switched from roman catholic to melkite simply because the services seem more holy. my grandmother was buried today, the funeral was held at St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Rochester, NY and it was such a beautiful service.

@TheOrlandoCatholic The tabernacle is on the altar (table) in the holy place (behind iconostasis). It's small.

I completely agree about feeling ashamed of our Western ignorance of all Eastern churches. However, I'm trying to learn. I have learned a bit about icons and the symbols, but feel lost about the organization of the church. Is the gate there because only the priest is allowed there? Where are left over Eucharists stored? I don't see the Tabernacle- there must be one.
May her memory be etermal. I will remember you both tomorrow in St. George Milwaukee.
God Bless

Beautiful! I love the ancient symbols -like the candles representing the Trinity and the Divine & Human nature of Jesus. I am confused as to where the Altar is...it seems there is a picture where our Altar would be, and then a gate further up front. Is that where the Eucharist is consecrated? Is there a Tabernacle to keep the ones left over? I'm Latin Rite/Roman. Thanks!

Thank you. It is a shame that the eastern part of the Catholic Church is so unknown to RCs. The picture in the front is an icon (usually the saint or feast of the season). The altar is a square table behind the icon wall (where the gate is). The icon wall, an iconostasis, separates the congregation from the sacred area. If you get a chance you should visit any Eastern Catholic in your area. They are fully in communion with the larger Roman Catholics - so it fulfills the obligation for Mass
