Have you been told that autism is a genetic brain disorder that can't be treated? Nothing could be further from the truth! In this week's UltraWellness blog, Dr. Mark Hyman reveals the surprising causes of this condition -- and gives you a step-by-step plan to help your child improve. • A British study of autism in twins found that 60% of identical twins were both autistic, but no non-identical twins both both had autism. The concordance rate increased to 92% v's 10% when milder cases were included.

Since the twins were exposed to the same environment, it rules out the environment as causing most autism cases.

  • Measles is a leading cause of death among young children even though a safe and cost-effective vaccine is available to prevent the disease.

In 2007, there were 197 000 measles deaths globally - nearly 540 deaths every day or 22 deaths every hour.

More than 95% of measles deaths occur in low-income countries with weak health infrastructure.

  • Quack quack quack...

  • @knowingwhoiam he's lying

  • Mark Hyman talks a lot of sense here. Robin P Clarke autismcauses. info

  • @bengalslash There's only a rather limited link between "peer reviewed" literature and the real world out there. If you think otherwise, please post some peer reviewed studies to support that view.

  • I'm autistic. When I was diagnosed, my mother was told not to expect much from me--that I would barely squeak through high school, shouldn't even consider college, and would likely die young and alone. My diet has consisted almost entirely of breads, dairy, meat and all the processed, artificial food I can shove down my throat. I earned a Bachelor's degree with no special treatment--my professors and most friends didn't even know I was autistic--and have had several girlfriends. Just a thought.

  • @Qwerty123123xX An altered diet only helps if there are intestinal or digestive issues along with autism. Just as ABA will not help with constipation or diareah, neither will GF/CF help with autism. They are separate and neither is exclusive to autism. Look up "IMFAR 2011: Dr. Eric Courchesne on the Developmental Neurobiology of Autism" in The Thinking Person's Guide to Autism for the latest research being done. It's fascinating what they've found.

  • @b1gregjockca Well, you'll go far in this life with an attitude like that. It's only a matter of time before you end up in jail as one of the many that has murdered a disabled person due to insensitivity. Science fact is not produced by quacks. However theories like this and those of the anti-vaccine movement are not based on any scientific evidence, therefore, their theories are produced by quacks. And for the record no routine childhood vaccines (required vs. recommended) contain any mercury.

  • @ischlopischlo believe it or not there are more sources of mercury than just vaccines

  • create a thesis, put thesis to the test, if test suceed and thesis still stands, publish new discovery..

  • I don't think this guy is aware of the non verbal cues. I think he only knows of "behavior" stuff like stimming, zoning out, sensory issues, etc. But not the not being able to "see" non verbal info thing. People (who know autism is neurological) already know that limiting some food stuff / chemicals or giving some things helps, doesn't mean it's a body disorder now o.O
