Grossinger's Airport Hanger Remnants

This is what is left of the airport hanger where boxing legend Rocky Marciano trained for his title shot at Walcott. The actual airport was not only used a few times and closed down in the mid fifties. The farmhouse and hanger were then used as a secluded living area for Rocky and others that didn't want the distractions of the resort. i was there about 5 years ago and i found the hangar off the side of the road. it was sort of on a hill. it was definitely the hangar. not sure if it was torn down since then. when did you guys go there?

@peter99ba Peter, that was Oct 08 and I've confirmed this is all that's left of the hanger. I spoke with a few local people who've suggested the top (metal) portion was sold off as scrap. All that remains today is the concrete pad.

oh thats sad. im glad i got to go there at least once to see it. all the pictures from when marciano trained there were right in front of me. i did take some metal as a memory and an old ceiling fixture that still works. do you remember what was the name of the road that the hangar was located? i remember pulling over and seeing it on the top of a hill. about 50 feet higher than the road below. was that airport road?
