BRING THE SICK, THE DRUNKARD, THE ADDICT, THE BLIND & THE LAME: Fierce rhythm & blues from the Gories, during their final performance (to date) on July the first, 1993, in NYC. We had a couple of camcorders at the club for promotional purposes for our feature-length film project, "Wayne County Ramblin'", then deep in 'development'. We wanted to put on a musical performance in New York in hopes of interesting financial investors. We were naive regarding that, but rich regarding the show; Otha Turner's Rising Star Fife & Drum Band opened up for Lorette Velvette, and what turned out to be the final Gories show. Doctor Ross was also on the bill, but sadly passed away of a heart attack a few weeks before the date. The song featured here is the Gorie's cover of Suicide's "Ghostrider", and the camcorders were armed by Keith Blankenship and Tom McGrath. Forgive the poor audio recording, I chose from the better of the two camera recordings. Can't find the DAT tape from the board. Hurricane Katrina put it in a box that is either in Michigan, or here in the Crescent City. See Mick and Peg perform 'Ghostrider' in Wayne County Ramblin', with Lorette Velvette substituting for Dan, as he wasn't available when we finally got around to shooting the film. The Gories were huge in inspiring Wayne County Ramblin', and although we couldn't quite get them together again, much of their spirit resides within it; I believe.

  • we won the worst band in detroit twice, they created the category for us the fist year, and we won it outright the second' - collins

Why is it that all the great bands of the modern era seem to be hung out to dry in their own towns, mocked by the media and left in the wilderness of fame and fortune. Later to be wheeled out as deitys or saviours in an attempt by all partys to compenstate for the fact they were so criminally overlooked in their own time.

  • Garage-punk Bo Diddley rockin' and on a Suicide song, to boot. Caviar.
