---Update: LADDERS DO NOT WORK AS OF 1.1. But they can be replaced with Iron Bars or Glass Panes with slightly reduced range. I have also tested with Doors (placement is more trickier, but they have the same results as Ladders). If you do use Doors, be sure that they are opened before firing!!! Closed doors will not support falling TNT.

Please check out my "mass driver" concept super cannon, confirmed 493 blocks maximum range reached.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8-12 TNT charge, can fire double shots, max ground range about 110 blocks.

My theory: When shooting with TNT, 90% of the blast energy comes from the first two TNT blocks in the charge. Any other TNT blocks behind them don't really add much more range, since it appears the TNT themselves themselves absorb the blast wave of those behind. The result, very little energy from the 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc charge reaches the shot itself. So it goes to say that using 2 x n for the boost stacks is the best way to go.

The "Guillotine" mortar build takes this into account. As you see, I drop my entire TNT charge into one spot closest to the shot. Sort of like the blade of a gullotine dropping down - hence the name.

I'll see of I'll have time to do a tutorial.

  • is tnt less powerful now?

  • @iamdictatorpo Don't think so, but you can't use a ladder anymore. Notch removed the "collision box" on them (not sure why) which held the TNT up, but you can still use a iron bar, glass pane, or door (or better yet a half door) to replace the ladder. Also I notice that TNT is more powerful on multiplayer.

  • My question is, does it still operate on full game? On account of the change of redstone?

  • @SirWetzely Still works.

  • @kovona Thank you for the confirmation. Now is there a tutorial of how to build this?

I wanna build it on a friends server, he loves tnt contraptions.

  • I'll see if I can get a picture and text tutorial up on the minecraft forum this week.
