The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) released 72 brown pelicans rescued from the BP/Deepwater Horizon oil spill off the coast of Louisiana.
The rehabilitated pelicans were transported aboard the USCG: HC-144A "Ocean Sentry" aircraft to Brunswick, Georgia and were released at the Brunswick U.S. Coast Guard Station. The release, originally scheduled to take place in Texas, was moved due to the threat of Hurricane Alex to the Texas coast.
