Dialogues in Design was a one-week studio experience in design, working with Massimo & Lella Vignelli and Armando & Cynthia Milani. The workshop, international in scope, was conducted the beautiful setting, the studio of Italian designer Armando Milani in Le Rouret, near Nice on the French Riviera. The area, Provence/Côte d'Azur, is nestled between the sea and the mountains, and is known the world over for its natural beauty. Located in the heart of this gentle and lush vegetation, is Milani's home and studio, Les Moulin des Trois Arcs which was a former olive mill from the 1500s.
In the workshop, conducted between June 15 and June 21 of 2008, as participants we were able to reflect and exchange ideas with two master designers. As part of the experience of the week, we were asked to carry out a re-branding exercise for the MAEGHT foundation. Our project... create a new identity system for the museum, starting with the logo and moving out to cover all possible applications. Having worked with architects for a while now, I really did not want to use the building's architectural detail in a separate iconic manner. Instead, I brought the detail into the name of the foundation, creating more of a symbiotic relation between the foundation and their architecture.
