  • Is this in St Louis by chance? Looks familiar.

  • Williamsburg, VA...I just saw him a few weeks ago in Virginia Beach, VA again.

  • ray's version was better

  • Ray's version *IS* Leon's...Leon wrote it and he recorded THAT version too....this is just his live arrangement. He wings it. Whatever his mood. I've seen him more than once. He was WITH Ray when Ray did LEON'S Song. Leon wrote this song for Rita Coolidge when they were together.

  • Leon blows The Carpenters version out of the water.

  • I think the Carpenter's version (and Karen's vocals) shows you the versatility of Leon's writing. That a bluesy song like this could be converted into to a sweet love ballad and become a hit is a demonstration of Leon's songwriting genius and Richard Carpenter's keen ability to select songs that Karen could turn in to mega-hits despite Leon's tunes being an odd musical resource for an act like the Carpenters. The Carpenters also recorded 2 other Russell tunes, "Superstar" and "Masquerade".

  • Leon is the man, and he does OWN this song!

  • A Song for You" is a 1970 song written and originally performed by rock singer-songwriter Leon Russell.

  • Leon Russell and the Shelter People has to be one of my most played albums of all times. I love playing the drums to it and bass.

  • Tahrlis - you are an idiot - this is Leon's song. Do your homework.

  • One of my all time fave pop tunes, first heard Carpenters version and love it. But also love Leon's version as less commercial as it is. And love Ray Charles version. No one mentions his version. The easy listening station in Houston I listened to years ago played it all the time. Was thinking it was released as a single as much as they played it.

  • Leon wrote the song in 1971 and Hathaway recorded it in 1972.

  • Rest in peace Billy Powell.

  • Leon did write it, and I think his version carries the most emotion for that reason.

  • its good...but not to compare to ray charles' version...
