What was supposed to be the most contentious point in the draft constitution appears to have been dealt with, without much acrimony in Naivasha. The PSC has settled for a powerful president but one who will not be a member of parliament. And as Robert Nagila reports, that deal could end the careers of many politicians aspiring for the country's top seat.
The elections should be held on the same day or within close proximity of timing to avoid ship jumping from vying for the presidency to senate or mp for those who loose in the first caseof their aspiration.

What happened when Marende became a speaker? A by-election was held for the people of Emuhaya to elect a new MP. The same should apply when an MP becomes a president. The suggestion being put forth will only create political oligarchy which is detrimental to our nascent democracy.

Let us separate the two. This is a good new rule. But the checks and balances must be there! We don't want another Moi or Kibaki.

Jokes on the politicians this time around. No killing 2 birds with one stone like they always did. The only man who can risk running for presidency since he has alot of voters is Raila. Hell even Ruto and Kalonzo can't try running for the presidency alone. This time the presidency is not about who got money but who knows how to woo the people and have international backing too and Raila has it all.But we will see the modifications to the draft this week.

That is a ridiculous piece of legislation. Why cant we have a new election of an MP in the constituency from which the president is elected as MP?
