Female genital mutilation has been around for a very long time in many African communities where the cut is seen as a symbol of womanhood. Despite increased awareness on the dangers of the rite, it is still rampant in some Kenyan communities. In the far flung East Pokot district, the community has been reluctant to part with the ritual, despite the generational and technological changes.
