  • Hi - good morning and happy new year to you. Glad to have you A BOARD excuse the pun LOL ! Yes it is pleasing to complete any work that you are reasonably happy with - whether craft or art, but also very satisfying to use re claimed materials that cost less and also have some historical meaning like these old french barn planks. Good luck and enjoy your new projects - glad to have been of help!

  • @ 3:00 you should have drilled a pilot hole then expanded the pilot hole and the finally drilled with the bit you are using for dowels in order to ensure center accuracy, going at it with a large diameter bit right off the start will always throw your center off.

  • I agree it is a useful and wise method - but as I drilled centrally anyway and the proof of pudding is in the eating, my table is fine thanks! :-) There are all sorts of permutations - using a bit of plaster tape to hold the drill bit steady etc. So if I ever have a problem after all of these years I wil bear your method in mind - thanks for the tip.

  • no problem, i cant wait to make some new end tables and a coffee table for my new house.

  • Yes its great fun - I had two reasons, my fiancee wanted such and I had just laid my hands on some lovely old oak planks. Originally these were for my boat jettee, but some of them were just too nice - soooo ?! :-) Good luck, show me some photos sometime? Enjoy.
