This video was taken on a short local storm chase on the afternoon of October 30th, 2009 in northeast Mississippi. We hadn't made any particular plans to chase this event, but had been monitoring some tornado warned cells through the late morning and early afternoon. While having lunch at Oby's in south Starkville, we noticed a fairly healthy looking rotating storm was entering our area and decided to drive out and take a look at it. We got a few more looks at some interesting features associated with a linear complex of storms with embedded supercells until finally being overtaken by convection north of Columbus. It's amazing how much visibility you can get in some parts of Mississippi. If you were to look at some of the pictures without knowing where they were taken, you'd swear they were from the Great Plains. All in all this was very successful chase considering it was undertaken without any real planning or preparation. An interesting side note, we ran this entire chase using only iPhones, including radar, GPS, navigation, still photos, and the video you see here. Storm chasing? There's an app for that.

I say the title of the video, "The Great Plains of Mississippi" right at 6:08... It really came out well buddy! Love the last shot there of the field... It really does look like the Great Plains, even though we were east of West Point, MS... Also I really like how you added the chase route... You're going to have to show me how to do that one-day! Great Job!!!

Thanks Greg,
Excellent work as always running radar and navigating! Hopefully this won't be our only chance to chase this fall.
