Made a terrible decision last week to initiate my hook turn about 100 feet lower than normal..........WTF!! now I have all summer to think about how stupid I was. Want to say thanks to all the first responders who took really great care of me and all my friends at west point, VA Ended up with a nice piece of titanium in my thigh!!

  • Just foolish pride

  • so what did you break?

  • @jumpinjunkietoo I broke my femur just below the hip. I got a nice piece of titanium and two screws for my efforts.

  • thanks for posting so others can learn and glad you on the road to recovery! What WL have you got the 139 at?

  • @krosfyah 1.4 to 1.5 depending on my beer intake

  • Glad you survived. @ 90 degrees through the turn, what were you thinking?

  • @kuai43 actually the whole thing was a little surreal I knew I was low at my start point but was convinced I could salvage it. when I watch now I think the same thing you probably do " Dude its obviously WAY low!!!" Dont let arrogance get in the way of good judgement. Im back in the sky now and running up to 3 miles X 3-4 times a week. It has slowed me down but not stopped me. without a doubt a very cold and hard reality check

  • I admire your honesty and willingness to help others learn from your mistake. We all make them and you had to pay a pretty heavy price, but one that could have been so much worse.

Whenever I see a video like this, I avoid saying "I'd never do that..." and instead just try to stay humble and learn.

So glad you are healed up and back in the air.

see all

  • I'm not one to piss on others, but you're about 90-100 feet when u made the hook. But u don't GO FORIT. If you had pulled hard left u would have made it

  • to low to front rise hook, now u learned, what not 2do ...gladly u survived ,,

  • @MrGstrdr Wish you had kept filming longer. I'm an EMT, I like seeing trauma and would have liked to see how the people who came to your aid treated you.

  • f*ck me...glad you were able to get better.

  • Ouch mate, really glad you are ok. I start my AFF in a few months, I think watching vids like this will keep my head on, so i dont try anything im not ready for...

  • Glad you survived. I guess I was lucky to have some great canopy instructors who gave free advice to NuB's. This included brake turns and using rear risers. Blue skies :)

  • Bad decision on your part but thanks for posting this dude. it will give me nightmares and something to always think about when swooping... Its not worth it if its too low!! your are a very lucky soul. take care.

  • Damn! Glad you are better now dude. Thanks for posting this video so the rest of us can benefit from the lesson you learned the hard way. Rock on~

  • hey mate, been a while for this vid, so how u doing now? u able to do much with a femur break?

  • thx for posting, so we can learn from it. I hope I won't make the same mistake someday, I do understand how you get to the point of being overconfident. The adrenalinerush or something about skydiving gives me that feeling as well, especially when you get better at it. Glad that you re still with us and that you can teach others to improve
