A quick look at last night's endeavors in rebuilding my 4G63. We were able to pop the pistons/squirters, hone the bores, repair the damage from valves hitting piston tops, and some other stuff. All this with the block still in the car...should I take it out? Comment yes or no below!

  • sweet. I'll see you there around that time.

  • So where is the rest of the vid at Nick?

  • it's about half done, rod-dog. I haven't worked on it in about a month. If I get a minute I might get something up after the meet this weekend. BTW are you going?

  • @GarrettKeetley- don't comment on something if you have no knowledge about it. The 4g63 has a cult following, and routinely smoke high performance sports cars. U can easily run 500+ HP through these engines with about $6000 in mods.

  • @GarrettKeetley

No, it doesn't. The R8 has been available only with V8 and V10, neither of them diesel. The V12 TDI version was just a concept that has never been later produced.

  • @GarrettKeetley

Well, I don't consider 15-second diesel VW fast. Anything that can't run 1/4 mile in less than 13 seconds and / or compete with common sports cars such as Corvette, Viper or Mustang (etc.) is slow.

  • @GarrettKeetley

How about asking yourself if you always drive around town with three passengers or utilize all your trunk space and your brakes to their full potential? Your VW may get 65mpg, but no, it does NOT have power. It's a slow econobox. Sorry.

  • @GarrettKeetley :) you and I both know that the great majority of very-high-horsepower machines (the Veyron would be an exception) are built to be raced and with no regard to fuel efficiency or usability around town. I've had a friend who built a 4G63/huge turbo combination, dynoed it, tossed it in his daily-driven car, and used it in that manner...but he's the exception by far. My car with the engine in this vid gets a happy 28-30mpg on the hwy and can get crazy too...I'm quite happy with it.

  • @GarrettKeetley I personally wouldn't drop that kind of cash on a DSM unless it was in prime condition prior to modding...but why do people upgrade anything? For experience, fun, or to simply say they've done it. I don't need 1,000 horses...I'm more than happy with 300 the rebuild afforded me on the cheap.

  • @GarrettKeetley one of these blocks can develop 1000+ WHP with the proper mods. Sounds quite beastly to me. Besides, the R8 V12 TDI was canceled two years ago so that's not relevant.
