Experience www.DanceCrazy.com's extensive introduction to Swing Dancing! If you can't help tapping your feet to the amazing rhythms you hear in Swing Dance music (think Count Basie, Duke Ellington, or Ella Fitzgerald) then these dance videos are for you!

Whether you're completely new to the idea or you have had experience with dance before, swing is the thing when it comes to dances to learn! Learning swing is as easy as counting, and with a little bit of practice, the basics can be mastered in fairly short order. A basic competence with swing dance steps can lead you to all sorts of other dances so make swing your foundation. Learning swing dance steps is a lot easier than you might think, and it can open up a variety of different doors to you.

First, you need a bit of information to set the stage. There are a few things that you should know about swing dance steps just starting out. Although swing is a non-progressing dance and almost as many couples can fit on the dance floor as necessary, it is important to make sure that you have a broad flat surface to move around in. Remember that you will start the dance facing your partner, taking both their hands. The man will offer his hands, palms up and the women will put her hands, palms down, on top of his. Their fingers will hook together securely. The person dancing the male part begins the dance by moving his left foot, a motion that is mirrored by the person dancing the female part.

Swing dance steps essentially come in two categories, the back rock and the triple step. In the back rock, the left foot of the man and the right foot of the woman pull back and the weight rocked onto the back foot before being rocked forward again. In the triple step, the feet follow three beats of music where the accent is on the first and third beats.

When you put these two steps together, you have a basic swing step, but as with many other dances, you can learn the basics in an afternoon and spend the rest of your life learning to master the rest. Start off with some swing music playing in the background and start counting it out in your head, discerning which beats the back rock can be done and which should signal the triple step. When you are concentrating on the music, you will get a better idea bout the rhythms of the genre and because of this, your swing dance steps will be that much more fluid.
