  • This can be fixed for about 25 bucks. The fix last for about 2 years. The seal will start to seep again, the bearing noise will get increasingly louder over a month or two.. The motor bearings are actually skateboard bearings I recommend your get the sealed bearings. Just type in 608-2rs into Google and you can pick you bearing. Order impeller seal kit part#8531017. Remove rust from shaft use some WD-40 and knock the off the bearings. Tap the new bearings on install seals. reassemble like new

  • Thanks wrightventidos. This will be a less expensive fix for me in 2 years.

  • Next time I redo my kitchen floor it will be with linoleum. I won't use laminate flooring in a kitchen since you can't trust dishwashers these days.

  • I did not engineer this unit so I can not truly identify what default in the system allowed water to get to the motor bearing other than the motor shaft pump seal. It is a possibility that a seal lubrication is missing in the faulty assembly. Only the manufacturer would know. By replacing the pump assembly which comes complete with a new motor, hopefully I will get another 2 years use of this dishwasher for my cost of $180. Which I believe, would have been the same cost for an extended warranty.

  • timjmuller i did not experience this. i only could not remove the old bearing innermost piece off the shaft, so instead i slid it DOWN the shaft past the groove for the mini c-collar. I used a chisel and sledgehammer to move it that half inch to make room for the new bearing. Impeller cant be loose, maybe it is damaged as well. I filled the soace between the spring loaded gasket and the new bearing with waterproof grease. Adam

  • @utopiaHammerstone I just put on a new bearing and replaced the motor shaft seal. It seems like the motor shaft with impeller has quite a bit of resistance or friction. Did you run into this? It seems like its friction at the seal. Maybe i tightened the impeller too much. I haven't put the unit back on yet because I fear something is just not right. In help would be appreciated.

  • Fixed mine with the abovementioned $9 skateboard bearing and 2 hours. Ours had become loud after 3.5 years use. Ordered that part a few weeks ago. Dishwasher just filled up and emptied as of tonight, no pumping or spinning. So i opened it up and replaced the bearing. It now sounds like it is running "like new". Thank you, yourose98 and wrightventidos!

  • Perhaps unintentionally, a wonderfully hilarious video....the dryly despondent commentary of our hero as he fumbles with the plastic shoddy parts is priceless.

  • @MDCeasar , My Whirlpool "Gold" dishwasher (pfffft, more like Whirlpool Lead) had the same problem. Never, ever again, will I buy another Whirlpool dishwasher or clothes washer. We now have a Bosch dishwasher that we are very happy with.

  • You fix this yourself dude??? Way out of my league.. I can pull a computer apart and put it back together, but I can't do this.

  • Very good video. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Now I have a pretty good idea why my Kitchen Aid Dishwasher has started making noise after 8 years. I took the chopper and washing assembly out and ran the dish washer without them but the noise is still there so pretty sure it is the motor pump assembly which cost $224.17 canadian to replace.

  • There is a new seal part number supeceeding the 8561017 costs about $70 shipped from Whirpool. The seal and stainless washer in the new part # seems to be higher quality than the defective one. I bought Rollerblades bearings Koyo made all from stainless steel, that will help to bearing's life in case the seal leaks again.

Next dishwasher will be a Bosch unit, my mother in law owns one for 10 years to date without any problem, she paid $200 more than I paid for the crappy chinese Whirpool...

  • We also have a Kenmore Elite Ultra Wash which began grinding some weeks ago, about 4.5 years after installation. Many thanks for getting me pointed in the right direction in locating the problem. With a helpful online procedure posted by RepairClinic, I was able to replace my motor and save a huge repair bill.
