I wake up to the sound of my cellphone ringing, not knowing how long I've been passed out. I answer in a groggy manner and the voice from the other side make my head shoot up. She was hit by a car. "Demi Lovato's vital signs are unstable at the moment and we suggest you get here, immediately. We're not sure if she'll make it through the night." The last sentence made me drop my phone to my car floor. I switch the engine on and put the car in drive, not caring about the speed limit. This cannot be happening. I already lost her, do I really have to lose her physically too? My heart rate picks up as I get closer to the hospital. I'm squeezing through random people, doctors, and nurses now as I look for Demi's room frantically. But when I do, I regret even doing so. I freeze at the doorway, seeing her hooked on machines and different looking tubes. My feet eventually reach her and the first thing I do is take her hand in mine, trying to contain my emotions. I fail miserably as tears drip down to my shirt. Her bandaged head shifts a bit and I realize she's awake through my blurred vision. "I'm so sorry, " I gush out quickly. I can see her eyes fighting to stay open and I begin to hiccup with how hard I was crying. "I lied, Joe. I didn't mean to hurt you. I love you so much, " She stutters with her chapped and pale lips. Just this morning, I was admiring them with my own, kissing them lightly. I just nod, wanting to get my point out. "I love you too, " I say through sobs, "Please don't leave me, " I continue, saying it like a child that's lost in a department store. I bend down with my rattling knees and give her a reassuring kiss on her forehead. Her grip loosens around my hand and I pull away to a machine going off into a loud and continuous beeping. A slight smile is planted on Demi's face with her eyes closed. I finally realize what's happening and I begin to scream, reaching for the nurse button. "No. No. No!" I get louder and I feel her tug on my hand, almost effortlessly. "I love you, Joseph.." With that, her hand slips out of mine, landing on the white hospital bed. An element of energy runs down my spine as I look up at her life machine. Nothing but the number zero, three long and endless lines, and a familiar beeping from movies. It usually indicates the person is gone. "No, " I whisper to myself and to Demi's lifeless figure. My arms wrap around her motionless body as I rock her back and forth, sobbing into her neck. The door swings open and I know that it was doctors, but what use would they be? She's gone.
---------------------------------------- -- This was nothing too special. I wrote this for a project at school and I thought I'd post it as a oneshot. The names were different when I turned the paper in, so I changed them to Jemi. :P So, what do you think? More OneShots?
