The National Operatic and Dramatic Association felt this performance deserved their award for the best amateur production in the South West - clearly the ones with the expertise to judge!

@linprs Well I've actually played the part myself and performed in the musical a previous time aswell so I know it very well and I think the singing seemed too disconnected from the action. I don't mean to be critical but I just think the staging could've been better and that's not the actresses fault. Maria is supposed to be utterly heart broken and she didn't even seem upset at first, or particularly forceful with Chino.

@GracieW16 No! I wasn't meaning to criticise the girl playing Maria, I was just saying it's a shame that the pianist kept playing, it's difficult to start in the right key acapella! Either she should've been given a note or the pianist should've been prepard to stop, she still sang well tho! I've played the part myself too so I know. I'm sure she was great at the part I just tend to be a bit over critical sometimes, I didn't mean to be offensive!

@GracieW16 well,you needn't have made that comment... maria was not a profesional singer! she could not do EVERYthing right... she performed really well that part and it is really difficult... trust me! i have played that part too!

Clearly @GracieW16 does not know her musicals - this production was awarded a well derserved NODA and the performance by everyone who took part was absolutely splendid. Maria did not over do the singing she was playing the part of someone whose lover had just been shot !
