Completely agree with both of you. I've cut tracks less than a half hour old, tracked the cat on foot for 7 hours over 5 miles and never caught a glimpse. It happens, but rarely and without HARD work. This is the only way to hunt cats in SD but they fill the quota every year.

I hunt mt. lion in South Dakota and here, it is illegal to use dogs. I've tracked a number of different lions and never once even seen one. They are the most difficult thing to hunt in my opinion and when I finally get one-the most rewarding too

Now here's a man who knows what he is talking about. 100% of these anti-hunters are so uneducated...they have absolutely no idea or substance behind their acusations.

Actually hunters are the only reason why the animals they hunt are still around. Hunters dump in millions and millions of dollars every year that goes to the conservation and protection of wildlife and their habitat. Without funding from hunters, these animals would already be extinct from poachers and the envasion of their natural habitat. Hunters also contirbute to the overall health of a species population and taking an animal like this is beneficial to the cougar population

I have hounds and let me tellyou that I have logged endless mile behind my dog just training them on cats and never finding a cat worthy of harvest. Most houndsmen I know are the best at scoring cats because they see way more than most. If you want to take a huge risk in killing a lactating female or a small cat go ahead and do it the "manly" way.
Killing animals for pure pleasure is a sickness. I wish all you hunter freaks that live to kill innocent animals would maybe think twice before killing a beautiful wild cat, bear or wolf. Find the beauty in these animals. Let them live the way god intended. Leave them alone!!! Animals are all becoming seriously endangered because of hunters like YOU!!

Your point is very emotional and through that cloud reality is evading you. Animals are NOT becoming endangered because of hunters. Hunters and other spotsmen are the reason there are more elk, deer, turkeys, bears, wolves, and cougars now than there were in the 1900's. Extremist groups like PETA would like to brain-wash you to believe otherwise. Do some ACTUAL research and you will see the sound wildlife management practices that have have allowed animals to flourish and be hunted!

Furthermore your other comment you sent me about "Go to the grocery store - that is where meat and food comes from now" shows your lack of reality. You can choose to be a coward and pay the farmer and butcher to do all the killing for you to keep your hands clean. I however choose to participate in our hunting heritage and provide hormone free meat to my familiy's dinner plate. Humans have upper and lower canine teeth which shows we are made for eating and chewing meat > meat comes from animals

While i support predator hunting in some forms. Using dogs to hunt bear or mountian lion seems like the pussy way of doing it. I've killed two cats and three bear and countless coyotes. And i did it all by putting miles on my boots

This was my first experience hunting with dogs (besides pheasant, quail, rabbits, etc.) and I will tell you watching the dogs work and experiencing the chase was the best part of the hunt even if I didn't pull the trigger. I also have taken NUMEROUS predators (coyote, bobcat, Black bear, grizzly bear, cougar) including the #2 Grizzly bear in the Longhunter Muzzleloader Record Book and all of them were taken after countless miles on MY boots.

if you have killed 2 lions by just "puttin miles on your boots" then you are the luckiest little bastard ever! they rarely show themselves during the day time, and run long before you see them. using dogs is far from the pussy way of doing it, its almost the only way! and just because people use dogs does not mean they dont walk or run, miles on end everyday. it is a very exciting hunt and you should think about trying it someday!
