I finally got out on the new YZ295. I had the wide squish band / high CR head on it and was only running 93 octane fuel, so it had a little lugging detonation. I've made a few adjustments and I'm switching to the pump fuel head to see if I can improve the top-end power. Chris was home w/ a sick kid, so I rode solo and a little easy (I'd just broken in the engine the day before). More video's coming as I get this thing dialed in a little better.

  • is this in gwinn?sandsplains?

  • @Teamgraybirdracing No Tomahawk, near Wolverine.

  • how did you have the power tuned, I'd guess low becuase of the woods you ride in? how much did it help over your 250 stock motor and did it kill the top end?

  • I asked him to raise the stock power across the board (I liked the stock power band), but I don't think it's getting enough air to make it's full potential top end pwr. I have the engine apart right now, and will be putting a 1mm spacer under the cylinder, going to a 1.5mm over bore carb and going back the the high compression head. I'm in the process of lengthening the linkage to the power valve to make-up for the 1mm increase in cylinder height. I won't get a chance to try it until spring.

  • we just got back from riding out there last week(05-12/05 16). the best trails ever. we went out last year as well. we came from pennsylvania. we also laughed about it being crazy to drive 1200 miles to ride 300.... ha. do it once and you'll know why.

we did black lake an tomahawk. thanx for the post bro. south penn enduro riders.

  • @hardtail74 Does Penn have a trail system like Michigan? I've relatives in Scanton and the drive across 80 is beautiful. I often wonder what riding in those mountians would be like.

  • nice, how often do you ride there? that's a pretty good pace you got goin in the woods

  • Michigan is so underrated for off road motorsports. I cant count how many miles I logged in with my dad up north trail riding. You could do it for months on end without riding the same trail twice.

  • ida just tossed on an extra base gasket lol.

    great ridding crisp bike dude.

  • Those are good questions. I did go one size larger on the pilot jet and 1/2 a turn in on the pilot air screw. It improved the detonation, but only marginally. The head on it was set-up for 110 octane fuel (I sent him 2 heads to mod) and the other is set-up for 93 oct fuel. Before I go hog wild on carb, timing and exhaust tuning, I want to at least try out the other head (it's and easy swap). One thing I've learned over the years is only make one change at a time, otherwise it's easy to get lost.
