The daily priority stack/intermodal speeds through the snow on the Union Pacific Geneva sub.

After Amtrak 6 went by, I packed up my gear and was keeping warm in my car. Awaiting the westbound detouring Amtrak 5. Reports that I received was that it left Chicago about 40 minutes late. If that was true, the train wouldn't get to my position until near sunset. With the snow coming down, that would be a dim shot. So before heading for home I decided to catch whatever train ran by next. The wind was from the east. So catching a westbound would have snow blowing almost directly onto the lenses of my two approach cameras despite the lens hoods. Oh well. My philosophy is you can't delete what you haven't shot. So I set up for the westbound and discovered that it was the "Bird" as it flashed by.

The last, short zoomed-in clip is through a fairly snow-packed lens. The wide approach view had snow on the lens at the end also, but didn't affect the view as much.

  • Another fantastic video Bill. All your work for my viewing pleasure. Thank you.

  • @TheTRAINUT

You ain't kidding. The UP doesn't screw around in Illinois. Soon as they cross the main diamond with BNSF at rochelle, they're wire to wire from Proviso to Clinton at 70 MPH.

  • @TheTRAINUT They were moving right along. I barely got the cameras set up and rolling.
