Absolutely you can use a razor with a guard; in fact I would suggest that you do. This is an advanced designer. Is it the best idea for him? Probably not. I am positive he has his reasons, still doesnt make it smart... I work with "Feather Razor" working with this guard protected razor allows you to utilize other razor techniques, not just a back and forth motion like he describes. It is an option...is it safe to use a razor with out a guard ...Absolutely yes...this is how we trained people at bumble before MG sold...
In the right hands it is fine..uncertain hand simple use a guard...
