The California Senior America Pageant is proud to announce that Elisabeth Howard from Topanga was crowned Ms. Senior California; she competed against eleven contestants who came from all over California on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Rose Center Theater in Westminster, CA. The women competed in interview, evening gown, and talent competition as well reciting their philosophy of life.

2012 Ms. Senior California Howard's walk across the stage to accept the crown marked her first steps on a journey that will take her from spotlight to spotlight representing the American woman 60 years of age and over who have reached the "age of elegance". Howard will go, all expenses paid, to compete in the October 2012 Ms. Senior America Pageant held in Atlanta City.

Ms. Howard is a graduate of the Juilliard School with a B.S. and M.S. in voice. She is on the vocal faculty of Pepperdine University and is the founder and director of the highly respected Vocal Power Academy in Los Angeles, established in 1980, with a network of teachers teaching the Elisabeth Howard Vocal Power Singing Method. Clients have appeared on American Idol, Star Search, TV series, film and recording, Broadway, Off-Broadway and National Tours. Ms. Howard has performed and taught all over the world as well as presented workshops and master classes in eleven countries and thirty-six cities.

Among some of the distinguished artists Ms. Howard has worked with are Sting, The Police, Paige O'Hara, voice of Belle in the film, Beauty and the Beast, and Maxine Nightingale ("Lead Me On"), Priscilla Presley, Tony Danza, Traci Lords, and Stephen Dorff.

"Ladies, Take a Bow" was the theme this year, and taking center stage was the talent competition. The talent award is given to the individual who receives the highest score on the talent portion of the Pageant, and this year's talent award went to Ms. Howard as well. First runner up went to Jeanne Lenhart from San Diego; second runner up was Wendy Ida from Lakewood; third runner up Suzanne Millhollen from Rancho Margarita and fourth runner up went to Gayla Kalp Jackson from Moorpark.

Marilyn Kohler, California's current State Pageant Director, announced that the leadership baton for the State Pageant will now pass to Pamela Wheeler, who won the title of Ms. Senior California in 2010. Mrs. Wheeler will also become the CEO of the Ms. Senior California of America, Inc. 501(c)3 organization.

The Pageant seeks to elevate elegant senior women and allow them to get the recognition they deserve. Each contestant competing in this year's pageant either won a city title or was first runner up in one of the six preliminary pageants that were held around the State.

Since 1972, the Ms. Senior America -- as well as all state chapters -- has held to the philosophy that seniors are the foundation of America and should be considered its most valuable treasure. They believe that through their knowledge, experiences, and resources, the younger generations of America have the opportunity to build a better society.

Ms. Senior California of America, Inc. was established as a non-profit corporation in 2010 and is affiliated with Ms. Senior America, Inc., founded in 1971. The Ms. Senior California Pageant is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and is now the largest senior pageant program in the nation. For more information please visit www.MsSrCalifornia.com.
