Comments from Josh/Evangeline/Carlton about this scene-
EVANGELINE:

We didn't rehearse. We allowed what's going to be in the moment because human beings don't rehearse their kisses before they happen. Especially since we are two characters who have never really kissed each other before -- we have always said that if both the kisses that we've done onscreen look awkward and weird, good. It should be. We have been fortunate enough in this last one to have a director who did five takes and that was it, not a thousand times and ruining the spontaneity. I just told Josh, this one's up to you because I had to be in charge of the last one because he was strapped to a tree (laughter). So this last one, I told Josh, "I am just going to let you kiss me. I am just going to let it happen because I wouldn't know what was coming. I wouldn't know where my hands are going to go or what you're going to do to me. You're in charge." Apparently, he's good at it. People liked it.

By virtue of being caged together, in a way, they were forced to intimacy. That has an effect on a human being, to face your worst nightmare has an effect on you, which is unsettling and unnerving and strips you bare. I feel that is a huge part of how Kate became vulnerable enough to cry out that she loves a man and actually offer him her kiss, instead of letting him kiss her. I think because she was stripped so bare, when Sawyer says, 'I was trying to give you hope,' the idea that in all of this hell he was trying to protect Kate broke her down. It opened her up to offer him this little nugget of love, which was her kiss. Even after she did it, he asks, 'What was that for?' and she says, 'I don't know,' when clearly she knows. Obviously, the actual answer is, 'I love you, and I don't know how to say it because I am afraid to say it.' He is so much like her that when she says that, he hears, 'I love you,' and then kisses her back. I think the writers did it so beautifully because it was real and grown up.

JOSH:

"I love working with Evie", Holloway says. "She´s such a little warrior. She was like, 'Throw me up against the bars! Do it again!'"

"At the time of shooting the scene I didn't think about anything! (laughters) . The secret to make a good romantic scene is to know how to communicate with your partner and feel if you are both in the same mood. Evi is wonderful, very open artistically. She is the kind of person who thinks 'let's do it right!' and this is what matters: to make it work. This is great and liberating"

And we're really proud of the way that love scene turned out, because we wanted it to be different. We wanted it to take some time and have some moments in the middle of it. Not just this crazy furious thing. Because it's been such a long time coming."

We were really, Evangeline and I talked about it and you know it has been a long time coming, we wanted it to be right, we talked about it and we talked about it with the director and we all worked it out, it was really great that they actually let us take our time, we wanted it to mean something, have some moments in between not just this crazy animal thing in the dunks. So they allowed us that and it added something to it, it's good.

CARLTON:

This is such a big moment, obviously, in the show, for these characters to finally culminate their relationship. [...] It was great. I mean you think about it, you know, in a show, in a television show, to basically go fifty-five hours before these two characters - (Evi: It's beautiful.) - who are in love with each other actually finally culminate and, you know, make love. And I think it's really amazing, and I think it was all the better for that. And I think just as a starting point to that relationship, and you know, really kind of deepening and existing on a different level, it was really a great scene.

  • Carlton Cuse: But let's talk about Kate hooking up with Sawyer, just for a sec.

Carlton: what do you think? Was this actually the definitive choice?

Damon: I- You know, people keep asking me that and it's...I don't-

Carlton: Was this the definitive choice?

    Damon: How- How much clearer-

    Carlton: Was this choice...definitive?

  • D: How much clearer could you be about her choice? I mean, who's watching it and going, 'I'm not sure that she picked Sawyer, I think maybe she went with Jack there.' She's had sex with him.

C: And yet- And yet people actually do, you know, I think certain people maybe just don't value the act of sex as being that important.

D:I don't- I don't even know how I could possibly respond to that .But I will say that when you are curled up naked on someone's chest, You've made your choice.

  • They were beautiful together. I choose to erase the ending of Lost, because to me it was complete and utter rubbish and a total insult to the actors and their excellent crafts of bringing scenes like this together.

What a terrible, terrible waste the ending of Lost was.

  • @strangeattractor100 How could they say that and do a different thing in the final?? I HATE THEM! :@

  • I think Lost went downhill after series 3. There were opportunities that they missed with these two. Series 4 was alright but even when he got with Juliet it was clear Sawyer wanted Kate right through Series 5. Series 6 seemed to abandon it, apart from that one scene in Recon. Kate and Jack never had much chemistry (same with Sawyer and Juliet) so both of them felt pretty forced by the end.

  • Still my favorite love scene of all time. I chose to imagine my own ending in the last season. ;-)

  • i kno i hate the ending of lost i dont get how they can just ignore all everything with sawyer and kate... they should be together they have a lotm of things in common and obviouslynthey love eachother.............i hate sawyer with juliet thats the most dumbest desicion ever they have nothing in comon they dont even look good together if u ask me lost should of end differtly sayer anf kate SHOULD of been together and jack and juliet ...i was so deppresed when they didnt wnd together!!

  • And there they are, stranded on an island for months, recently kidnapped, dirty and sweaty and desperate; just Sawyer, Kate and her perfectly shaved armpits.

  • Bad writers and producers don't know what to do with gold on their hands, that's the difference between classic movies and present day rubbish. Darlton could do something with the same quality, prestige that Casablanca and Gone with the Wind had, but they just ruined it! Some day will know why.
