Next issue to take care is the loose nut. The guitar has no slot available, the nut is simply directly placed at the end of the fret board, only having the truss rod cover in front of it.
I am pondering how to fix that, probably I will route a nut slot to mount the new nut in.
Suggestions welcome...

  • I think wrapping the strings around the "string catcher" or "tail piece" is a great work around solution to its hight issue! If you rout a slot for that same nut you'll probably have fret buzz on the first fret with every open string. Don't make a slot for a new nut make sure you have the new nut before hand so it the correct size. If it was me, I would just use some super glue between the nut and finger board to hold it in place as most are done this way and that is why there is no slot now.

  • @NickedBlade

indeed, thx for the warning. I do intend to create a new nut from bone though. The raw nut I have is jumbo sized, so it should be no problem of being to small for the new slot.

Superglue the nut, yes, that's an option, probably makes the most sense given overall quality of the guitar. But, this also is a guitar which can give me a good opportunity to learn.

  • That should all be done with a chisel

    no power tools required

just skill with the right chisel :)

yes, indeed, two things i don't have: chisel and skill...

i think i practice first on some scrap wood, until i try to ruin this neck.

    keep you posted

  • you crack me up :)

  • yer string "catching" the bridge is no problem, the high E usually rests on the side anyways... Oh, and pleaaase work on yer pronunciation

  • PERSONALLY I would forget the power tools...Use a hand wood file same width of the nut if at all possible. I do know they come in all types of widths. And yes you need a flat bottom for the nut and level from Low E to High E. All Adjustments are in the nut itself when doing this work. Many good guitars already have a groove for the nut as well as shims to adjust the height. Lastly you will obviously need a new nut since this one's cut waaaay to deep. Trying to build up a deep nut wastes time

  • I'd love to route a slut too, but wouldn't want a slut with a flat bottom.... each to their own...! hehehehehe Hope you got it sorted ok - i see you have a vid titled "successfull" so looks like you did! Great video, and thanks for a laugh.

    Merry Xmas, Chris.

  • Haha you're great, sound like arnie!

  • What happened to this guitar?

Is it old, did you drop it?

  • 2:14 This nut... This ugly, ugly, uughh, piece of crappy stuff that makes me cry.

  • gibson SG FTW

  • I would not use super glue. I use light glue. I can always dislodge it with a few light hammer taps.

  • my guitar busted a nut lol do you how much in will cost to be repaired est.
