Employees from the City of Jasper Fire Department and KnowPickens.com served as test subjects for officers to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests after a three day class at the Pickens Sheriff's Office. City of Jasper Fire Chief Steve Roper, Asst. Fire Chief Von Headrick, Terri Walters and Mari Livsey were transported from their individual homes by Lt. Ernie McArthur to the Pickens County Adult Detention Center. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) developed three Standardized field sobriety tests (Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, the Nine Step Walk & Turn, and the One Leg Stand) to help officers determine whether a DUI suspect's blood alcohol content exceeds .08 percent.
