  • this is terrible- all part of the systematic dismantling of public access taking place in the name of "competition" and "lower costs". fat chance...

  • With all the negative publicity this has received it's amazing AT&T hasn't fixed it yet. Time Warner or Comcast would have changed the technology rather than just sit there and take the PR hit. And since U-verse streams one channel at a time to your home, it's hard to understand why PEGS can't be treated like any other channel.

  • Very interesting video 2Jef. Thanks for posting.

  • so not only u can watch the public access channels ur you city, but can u watch other channels from other citys?

  • I agree, you have to remember local channels take sore effort because most of the time they're local in a large system. every small town needs a few moments to line up with the system next to comcast because U-Verse is a nation-wide system. You may think AT&T doesn't care, but they only have so much bandwidth to work with. Not everyone can get center of attention, even local government. I think it's bogus, too, but I understand it's a technological flaw, not because it's local tv.

  • You mean almost a full min to simply change a channel (PEG), when every other channel takes seconds?

    This is just redonkulous.

  • I don't think waiting a few seconds is that big of a deal.

  • There is a difference though in that cable companies only have one area in which they are covering publica access and AT&T has to cover a larger area. Plus they are covering it. I know just a year ago Comcast wanted out of the public access business but now all of a sudden they want in because of AT&T coming on board.

By the way no one is forcing anyone to change that is up to you. I want a choice and think we all deserve it.

  • Great demo.

  • Thanks for putting this together for all of us to see. We are fighting this in Illinois right now.

  • It is important to point out that manually entering a channel on U-verse is instantaneous, provided you press the Enter button (to the right of Zero on the numeric keypad). This designed behavior is similar to most other STB's and enables a user to slowly enter in up to 4 numbers without the system actually jumping to the channel. I can't comment on the performance of PEG, since I am located in St. Louis, MO and AT&T does not appear to offer it to my area.

  • Thanks for the demo...

It does take a bit of button pushing and I don't think most people will get through it without burning their dinner or having their buttons pushed...
