"A very anthemic song written after the Gulf War broke out. As I stated on the "River of Souls" album, there will always be better ways than destruction to settle our differences." (Dan Fogelberg)

A Voice For Peace ~ by Singer/Songwriter Dan Fogelberg,
from his "River Of Souls" album (released in 1993), also can be found in his "Portrait The Music of Dan Fogelberg" album (released 1997) Disc Three: Rock & Roll
Special thanks to Bobby for typing Dan's liner notes from Portrait Booklet for me!

(A Voice For Peace Lyrics)

You know that everybody has a voice
And how they use it is their own free choice
In your glory I will not rejoice
If you choose the ways of war
If you choose the ways of war
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
My country 'tis of thee; in God we trust
But how much longer will He shelter us
While we choose the ways of war
While the winds of war rage on

(Chorus)
Let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Oh let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Oh let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Let it start here with me--oh let mine be a voice for peace

The good book tells us thou shalt not kill
The truth came shining and it's shining still
But how much blood upon this earth must spill
Before we lay our weapons down
Let us lay our weapons down

(Chorus)

Let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Oh let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Oh let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Let it start here with me, oh let mine be a voice
And in the face of the beast, oh let mine be a voice
Until the breaths in me cease, oh let mine be a voice for peace
Let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Oh let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Oh let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Oh let mine (oh let my small voice) be a voice for peace
Raise your voice up, raise your voice up
Raise your voice up and sing for the promise
(Sing as a round with the last chorus)

  • Being a "Navy Brat", the ways of war are soooo hurtful... Took my "Daddy" away for a long, long time when I was a little girl; but he kept me living as I live today; proud and free...

Let mine be a voice for peace? Yes!

Let all of our voices be a Voice For Peace!

Dan... ahead of his time before he knew it...

  • It's too bad Dan didn't write this one a little earlier in his career-it might have been a big hit-especially in the 70's and especially when he still had that high tenor voice, as back in the days of the Netherlands album! Peace, BobbyK

  • I love this! Dan stood for so many wonderful, wonderful things; wouldn't world peace be the ultimate? I raise my voice up and sing for the promise with you, Dan. Thank you for yet another amazing Ever On Creation for Dan, Bill. Listening to Dan is as if we knew him. What a wonderful wise soul he was, and always will be. Miss you, Dan, so very, very much...... there are no words to express how much. You will always! "Let It Shine"! as well as Ever On be with us through your music.....

  • Beautiful!

  • Another of Dan's timeless messages!!! Wonderful video, Bill! Thank you, bro!

    We truly miss you, Dan.....

  • great song.

  • " In God we trust " very powerful words! With the craziness of the Middle East, I hope the Egypt citizens showed the world we will not stand for this anymore.. do hope the other suppressed countries in the Middle East will take a stand too.. they need to take back what is to be a god given right... freedom to choose and not to live in fear of their views, regardless if it's against the govt.

  • Awesome!!! In this world of wars going on, the horror that we witness daily, grieves my soul. The innocent children of the war ridden zones how their hearts must ache. I being an American am so happy that the very soil that we walk on is one of the safest places in the world. I want to thank all the men and women who put them selves in harms way to make this place a safer haven for us all. Let us never lose site to those who have fallen, and have hope for those still there! Thank you!

  • Timely Bill, and well done my friend!!

Let mine be a voice for peace...

    Maria

  • Thanks Bill! A peaceful transition to Democracy in Egypt would be a wonderful thing...let's hope!!!
