this is my 5.0 on startup..an 86 with an 88 engine, mods include k&n with custom CAI, ported upper and lower intake, ported and milled e7te heads with a 5 angle valve job, a b303 cam, aftermarket rockers, full length headers, 40 series flowmasters dumped, luk pro gold clutch, aluninum driveshaft, hurst shifter, 3.73's, nitto drag radials, crane ignition system and a 150 shot of nitrous. This startup is at 15 degrees initial, without the spout, she idles a little higher normally, considering the fact that she's a speed density car with a aftermarket cam..

  • i thought stangs didnt have a MAP until 89? isnt that when they got a computer?

  • @Wahwahweesnaw Almost any engine around that period has a MAP sensor. A Manifold Absolute Pressure reads intake vacuum, and it modifies the air/fuel ratio according to what it reads. You are talking about a Mass Air flow sensor, it meters the amount of air that comes in through the throttle body and regulates the air/fuel through those means. The Mass Air cars started in 1989, like you said......

  • @Wahwahweesnaw Sorry to reply again, but as far as I know stangs got computers when the became injected in 1986. It's not as in depth or as advanced as a mass air car, but it is still has an engine computer....

  • nice car. what kind of steering wheel is that, how much it cost, where can i get one. whats the product number

  • @howardshonda

It's a Grant Elite GT model 742. The one on my car cost about $150 new, but that was about 15 years ago. :)

  • So I do have to ask, how'd you get her to idle with the SD and b-cam? I've wanted to put an e-cam in my 88. People have said the e-cam is doable. But i'm afraid I'll never get it to idle right, plus i have an aod setup so idle is even more important.

  • @HotRodDT

On mine l unplugged the throttle air bypass and she had a steady idle of around 1000 rpm. The B cam raises the idle on the car, the only problem I had was maybe about once a month she'd die on me while I was idling and the ac compressor kicked in. The throttle air bypass valve kicks up the idle when the compressor cycles, and that wasn't an option with it unplugged. With the valve plugged in, idle was about 1600 rpm.

  • sweet i wish my 86 had a wheel like that lol

  • real nice steering wheel

  • @ebob06 Bigger cams lower intake vacuum, there is a sensor on SD cars called the map sensor that measures the vacuum in the intake manifold. The MAP sensor changes the amount of fuel the car is given, depending on the amount of intake vacuum. I had a b303 with speed density in that car. She ran fine, but was a tad rich at idle, not enough to foul plugs, but enough to emit a small amount of smoke sometimes at idle.
