In addition to the cars showcased in our Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Preview, a collection of Shelby milestone vehicles will cross the block. Eight vehicles from the Carroll Shelby collection including concept vehicles, test mules and development units will sell on Saturday April 3rd. They include an 06 Shelby GT-H coupe prototype (Lot #678.2), Shelby SR prototype (Lot #370.2), Ken Miles edition MKII GT40 Chassis #GT40P/2001 (Lot # 370.1), Shelby Turbo prototype (Lot # 374.2), 2007 Shelby GT Show Car (Lot# 374.1), 88 Shelby CSX-T (Lot# 55) and 99 Shelby Series 1 (Lot# 663.2).
There seem to be four basic motivations for the purchase of a collector car: investment, amusement, art and accomplishment. You buy an out-of-the-ordinary vehicle because you think it will increase in value, because you enjoy driving it, because you find it aesthetically pleasing or because you really wanted one when you were a kid and swore that when you made your fortune youd get it.
And whichever force, or combination thereof, drives you, there likely is satisfaction to be found somewhere among the more than 400 vehicles of every size, shape and description from exotic sports cars to hot rods and classics to sheet-metal scooters straight from a 1955 issue of Popular Mechanics that will cross the block Thursday through Saturday at the eighth annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction Palm Beach.
