Episode 01: "Pilot [Remaster]." (1/3)
Originally produced in 2002 and aired on Access San Francisco, Cable Channel 29.
Music: "Vienna 1990" by Zoviet France.
The quality of this episode is considerably lower than those which followed, since it was edited together at home using two VCRs. As is so often the case with early efforts, there are many things we'd do different now—some of the sequences just go on and on and on, and because it was all shot before we conceived of the show, many of the angles feel wrong—but it is what it is.
The credits were done by creating the graphics on the computer (using a seven year-old copy of LView Pro 1.B for Windows 3.1) and taping the monitor. We liked the look of the title screen so much we decided to make that the official opening. The rest of the credits are created on LView, then transferred to the studio's equipment.
This show is very much a relic of its time. There was no YouTube, and cat videos weren't so plentiful on the internet. (Cat pictures, yes, but not cat videos.) It was created for television. We were on public access cable at half past midnight, and our intended audience was people flipping through channels--the sleepless and the stoned.
