I'm reading the book now and I'm more than halfway done, and I think that in the book, Lo is much more of a victim and when she does flirt with him, it's more innocent and doesn't really understand what she's doing, not like she's trying to intentionally seduce him, I don't know, that's just my own thoughts. But both the book and the movie are marvelous in their own way

Continuity error - at 08:00 she is clearly chewing gum despite having taken it out of her mouth and stuck it to the book a moment beforehand. When she leaves it is still stuck to the book.
A wonderful and tragic story. Swain and Irons are fabulous together in very challenging roles.

This movie is beautiful, but gaios

@teflondon91 That's exactly the point: Her childish behavior is what frustrates and arouses Humbert's interest. This contradiction is what makes him even more abusive in the book than he normally would have been if Lolita just stayed with him

I think this film is subtle and crafty So what if the 97 film employs scenes not included in the book. Artistic license. I think repeating the scenes one after another through another medium is tedious and neither fun or provoking. The more you watch this, the more you hate Humbert, the more you understand what he thought it was. It's clever. The flirtation dissolves some of the figure we feel. Almost like his delusions do his guilt.

What I don`t like about this film, although it`s indisputably a piece of art,is that it shows the lighter part of the relationship between Humbert and Dolores and saves a great deal of his abusive arrogant and controlling behaviour towards her.In the car after picking her up from camp, for instance - the larger part of the conversation has not been included in the movie. He was an abuser and that`s not evident here ,whereas in the book it`s irrefutable.

@jenpannell85 She may know ,but that still doesn`t make it okay !!! Kids are often irresponsible and reckless,I have been, too, myself. You have absolutely no right to state that she ASKED FOR IT. Kids tend to do lots of improvident rash acts, but they are pardoned because they are KIDS !!! And Humbert IS NOT - HE SHOULD`VE KNOWN BETTER
Mum:"Is she keeping you up?"
Humber: "I beg your pardon?" *thousand thoughts race through mind till it hits and his mind goes OH!* "No!! No, no."

Humbert's Diary: "Today, Lo stepped over me while carrying out laundry. Instant boner."
