US Marines in Afghanistan prefere the G over the Humvee, that tells it all!

Having worked at STEYR-DAIMLER-PUCH factory in Graz Austria where the G is build I have seen extensive testing against Land \rovers etc.. The G is better than any competitor in almost all areas. Also available in military varients.

@Guderian1939 great to hear it confirmed from a man on the inside! So like yeah: my question is why the hell did Mercedes have to make it a luxury item? they could sell a lot more making it as a jeep/D90 competitor and price it around 30 grand or so.

@wodanowitz IIRC the Humvee doesnt even have difflockers. am I right? Also IIRC, at the begining of the 80's the US was thinking of adopting the G-class but the G-class of that era wasn't powerful enough stock so they decided to replace the Jeep with the Humvee. The only thing the H1 has over the G is width and thys stability. Put a lot of armor on a G and take it around a fast corner and you might flip. not so on a hummer.

Land Cruiser is very good and reliable but G is more overbuilt than Land Cruiser and can take far more punishment on daily basis plus the diff locks make all the difference.

gotta love em g wagons.... we only get the luxury g500 and amg 55 over here in canada. I would love to import a short wheelbase G.

If theres one car Mercedes has done good, its the G. Not only is it good. Its insanely good!

I believe thats because of the Afghan terrain. G wagons are slim and the town/city streets are more narrow than Iraq and the G Wagon is tall enough to see over the mudwalls and trenches. So I was told anyways.
is that bulletproof and are all g wagons bullet proof?

The 34" Simex Jungle Trekker tyres possibly did not help its fuel consumption!
