@dietywolf this is exactly why i loved mgs2 the first time around. it threw me/the player right into the game. When Raiden found out that Campbell and Rose were AIs I was so fuckin' confused that I was like...wtf was I playing??? WHO LED ME IN ALL THE MISSIONS!!???!!!

the ending was mind-fucking

Many years ago when I completed this and watched this cutscene, I didn't really understand it.
Now I do, and it's kind of disturbing.

If you read some in-depth interpretations (such as the ones on gamefaqs) this game can become more coherent.
By the audience getting confused it proved the Patriot's point about society exactly. When too much "truth" is released at once, a person cannot decide what to do. The game simulated this on the player by throwing out so many social/philosophical concepts at once that the player is lost. Raiden IS the player. The *was* no fourth wall.
Kojima is the Patriots. MGS2 is S3.
Ouch, my head...

@HEYWOODxJaBLOWME It's symbolic. It means that there are things happening all around us, and that our refusal to see them means the heros go unseen.
