Royal Caribbean International will launch its cruise ship Oasis of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world, in December 2009. The ship will span 16 decks, encompass 2,20,000 gross registered tonnes, carry 5,400 guests and feature 2,700 staterooms. At 361 metres (1,187 feet) in length, it will be almost 23 metres (75 feet) longer than the current largest passenger ship, the Independence of the Seas. It will also be nine metres (29 feet) wider, with a 43 per cent greater gross tonnage of 2,20,000.

Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, USA will be the homeport of the Oasis of the Seas. It will begin her inaugural season with 19 consecutive seven-night sailings to the Eastern Caribbean, with ports of call at Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas; Philipsburg, St. Maarten and Nassau, Bahamas. Starting May 1, 2010, Oasis of the Seas will alternate its Eastern Caribbean itinerary with the Western Caribbean itinerary, which will call at Labadee, Royal Caribbeans private beach destination in Haiti; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico. In 2010, Oasis of the Seas will be joined by a sister ship, Allure of the Seas.

Oasis of the Seas will be the first ship to tout the cruise lines unique neighbourhood concept of seven themed areas, which are: Central Park; Board Walk; Royal Promenade; Pool and Sports Zone; Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Centre; Entertainment Place and Youth Zone. Other additional features include: Rising Tide Bar; Zip Line; Promenade Bridge; Carousel and Loft Suites.

From the beginning of her sailing life, travellers on Oasis of the Seas will be able book tickets for the onboard shows in advance so as long as they know what they want to do from day to day, they can guarantee getting a dinner and show seating that works for them.

The shows are always free, but 5,400 passengers onboard, it can be important to ensure youve got the show sitting that works best for you. Currently planned shows include Hairspray; an aerial acrobatic performance; the classic ice-rink show and a comedy show in the Aqua Theatre that will feature Olympic divers and aquatic clowns.
