That was incredibly stupid. CRT monitors contain hazardous materials: large quantities of lead, phosphorous, cadmium, barium, and mercury.
Crushing and smashing of the CRT will cause the hazardous materials to be released into the surrounding area, and a leaching process occurs as a result. These toxic materials will easily be absorbed through your lungs, eyes, mouth, and skin. When the glass is crushed, the lead-bearing particles become an airborne hazard.
