Everyone seems to have their version on Youtube so I thought I would take a stab at it. I slow it down a bit so you can see what I am doing. We all know Alex Van Halen used a ton of overdubs when he recorded it so this is the best I could with my 4 limbs. Enjoy. RVP

  • One more question: the finish of your drums look like the finish on one of my kits. Yup I have seven drum sets which I know is rediculous but hey guitarists collect guitars right? So the drums I have are Gretsch reknown maples and the finish is called silver slate sparkle. Are yours the same?

  • @spercoco Yamaha Maple Custom Absolutes. RVP

  • Hey man. Gotta learn this tune for an all 80"s tribute band. I used to have the drum part written out that I got from someone many moons ago and it was actually differnt from what you're playing here but yours does sound close enough for me. My question is are you leading with your right or left foot? I think I used to lead with my left but I don't know why the hell I used to be able to play it so well and now 20 years later I have no clue??

  • @spercoco Leading with the right hand on the upper tom and the left on the floor tom. RVP

  • @robdrums69 but only after Eddie Van Halen's Ford motor is sounding.

  • @vansdrumming Thanks but my question was pertaining to the feet. I think I resolved it for myself though; I found that I play it better when leading with the left foot instead of the right. Cool!

  • muy bien

  • Thank you! As a child of the 80's it has been one of my all time favorite challenges to try and figure out a way to best reproduce the opening. Your version is very, very appropriate.

  • that was the business!!!!

  • For the layered effect at the beginning, Alex Van Halen strung together 4 bass drums. The rest of it he played using 2. It is a great example of double bass drumming.
