Well it is a monothematic exposition.. It's particularly clever how he blends this (somewhat out of fashion) structure with more innovative elements, eg. the longer development section and how the development of thematic material continues in the recapitulation, further blurring the lines of Sonata form. That unison tonic-dominant passage in the introduction is striking too, it almost precludes the intro to Beethoven's 9th don't you think?

I can't say what Beethoven had in mind when he wrote the opening to the 9th, but tonal ambiguity was something he had experimented with in introductions since his very first symphony. Obviously the ambiguity is protracted, and hushed compared to this blazen but brief display of force in Haydn's work, but it is hard not to draw parallels between the key and the rising and descending perfect 5ths and 4ths in both introductions. The force is perhaps mirrored in the opening of the 4th mvt of the 9th

yeah i'm assuming you all are string players when you say it's fun. the clarinet part to this symphony is probably the boringest thing ever.

orchestra is the best thing in world.but why not they `put` some rock style(poses, moving body) in it.like in `nodame` story.much more fun if its something different than ussual.
