Newegg Tutorial: How To Install an AMD CPU

It's time for another Newegg Tutorial, and we're keeping this one very specific: we'll be upgrading the AMD CPU from our recent Price-Performance PC build.

The existing CPU is an AMD Athlon II X4 630, and we'll be swapping in the new 6-core AMD Phenom II X6 1055T. Since both CPUs fit the AM3 Socket, and our motherboard is based on the new 890GX chipset, no BIOS update is required.

So, would it be possible to replace my current AMD Athlon II X2 240 with the Phenom II X6 1055T? I am considering doing so if it is possible.

@kyle589 Out of the box comes the CPU, the fan and compound in this plasticky thing. So I should not need the srynge, but I think it's weird it's in a bag?!? But i'll try to do research on that, and else, artic silver

@MultiSnoopDawg Either way if you dont see the syringe with the accesories get some. Like I said artic silver is the go to brand but there are many other good ones out there. If it came with a heatsink look at the bottom of the heatsink, if there is a thin gray square it came pre applied.

@kyle589 the 990x im sure comes with a fan, but that might not be, but in the vid i saw it had the compound in a plastick bag. If it doesnt come with the fan i know what fan to get, notchua or something, although im sure there is a fan. There are two extreme i7's, one comes with the fan, and the other doesnt. 990x, with, 3960x none

@MultiSnoopDawg Did you get an after market heatsink and fan? Cause I know the processor you got doesnt come with a stock one? If you dont have a heatsink and fan get one. Most come with a syringe of thermal paste. If your doesnt go get it. Artic Silver is the go to brand but any kind of thermal compound should do.
