  • Funny! We have something similar here on our property... there are about 50 Canada Geese living here and one lone white goose. The Canada Geese occasionally leave for a little while, but the white goose always stays behind. He eats with them, etc, but we joke that apparently he's not "invited" on their excursions. Folks around here say that he always stays behind when the rest migrate for the winter.

  • @love2driveinct it seems this way in a lot of places -its a mystery

  • I just saw a lone white goose with a flock of darker geese, just like these in the video. I can't say what kind because i don't know that much about geese. I live in Pittsburgh, and saw him in the Allegheny Cemetery (a kind of sanctuary for animals in the city).

It's August 27, 2010... the white goose had a distinct call... different from the rest of the flock.

  • @selenamay2 thats the very way I have been seeing it lately/ and yes the call is very pitchy and makes a nasaly "hink" sound

  • @selenamay2 Me again... I saw a simlar flock again, this time outside Philadelphia in Phoenixville... It's been all winter since I saw the flock last fall.... and this time they have some young ones with them, and it seems as though the white goose has some friends (though they are not stark white like him) and there are some young geese with the crew as well. Could it be the same flock or is it common to see a white goose with a flock of Canadian geese?

  • @chefgracie this one is lone here too .. swims, waddles about with, herds & bosses the goslings, eats and flies with, the canada geese flock here.. wish there was a way of knowing if its the same one lol --probaby not tho

  • @akarene Very interesting~ thanks for your reply! There are quite a few Canadians here year-round on our pond, but the white one comes and goes. When I said he was "lone", I meant that he's the only white one, but he is part of a flock of some Canada Geese. They treat him as their own, and he flies in formation with them, etc. I only saw him twice this spring, so they must have moved on quickly. He was here for a couple months last fall. Hope to see him again this year:)

  • @chefgracie i live in western NY about 2 hours south of buffalo it is hard to tell where on earth these birds get to, as they dont really seem to migrate much any more. last year we had 2 of the white geese here this year there were three, i think this one is their offspring. we shall see what next spring brings...
