Whats your reaction to yesterdays Metro train crash? Does an incident like this make you more concerned about your safety when riding public transportation? What do you think U.S. transportation agencies should do to prevent something like this from happening again?

I would LOVE to be a part of the investigative team. I just retired May 1st with 38 years of Gov't Service, 22 of them in Transportation. I only live 45 minutes away, so YES I would be willing to help!

Do I hear you saying you are willing to go to DC and help them with their problem?

I want and demand BOTH safety and economic sense and it CAN be done with effective management!! Perhaps they need to be audited so that wasteful spending can be exposed. Don't tell me there isn't any because there Always is! Yes, there are risks, but those risks do not have to fall into the category of "Un-Neccesary!"

What do you want safety or economic sense . I did not say it was human error. How can you prevent mechanical failures and be profitable? Pass the cost to the consumer? Accept the fact that there is a risk in everything we do!

No that is not what he meant. First of all this area is so dependent on the Metro Rail that there is no way it can be shut down without dire economic consequence for the entire DC/MD/VA areas. There is absolutely no way the highways can accomodate all those vehicles. The accident was a "mechanical" failure, and not human error. Metro is working to replace old cars purchased during the 1970's. Virtually ever accident experience by Metro Rail involved cars purchased during that period.

I like the last guy. "Have system in place to PREVENT things this from happening" He means shut down the rail system. That would prevent accidents for shure!
